I’m really happy to announce that my new book, If The Buddha Had an Autoimmune Disease: The Shocking Truth About The Self and The End of Suffering, is available starting today 11/22/16.
As any author can attest, writing a book affects you deeply on many levels. This book has felt like it has been brewing in my heart for my entire career. It has truly felt like a retrospective of my journey into the world of healing over the past two plus decades.
My training in Taoist philosophy, that’s embedded in Chinese medicine, tells me that we are already healed but have made a serious misstep by identifying with our disease, which causes us much distress.
My study of Buddhism tells me that we are already enlightened but we have forgotten this part of ourselves, which causes suffering. Neuroscience tells me that suffering is due to unmet needs of the brain. Psycho-Neuro-Immunology tells me that we can change our gene expression and autoimmune reactions with what we say, think, believe and feel. This book covers it all.
If you’ve been searching for a different perspective on healing and how to relieve the suffering that comes with disease, the Buddha has a lot to teach. The Buddha taught how to understand and relieve our own suffering and the suffering of others by working with the mind, body sensations, and emotions.
If The Buddha had an autoimmune disease, he would teach that there is No-Self to attack and that we are responsible for ending our own suffering. He would also teach you how! In the book, we will explore everything from:
- Finding freedom from disease identification and the foundations for healing.
- How to repair a “leaky psyche.”
- The benefits of meditation, mindfulness, mantras and guided imagery.
- Understanding forgiveness, compassion and the truth about self-love.
- The underlying causes and conditions of both suffering and happiness.
- The neuroscience of suffering and the basic needs of the brain.
- Why a positive mindset is not enough and how to overcome the brain’s negativity bias.
- Emotional regulation and “dealing with your demons.”
- Waking up at the level of the body.
- Embodying the virtues of loving-kindness, compassion, and equanimity.
- Getting off the wheel of suffering and experiencing Nirvana.
I also include simple techniques to approach disease via your mind, body and emotions to end suffering and reconnect with your true nature.
This book was the most enjoyable to work on. I hope it is as therapeutic for you to read as it has been for me to write.
