Many “gut protocols” include potentially immune-stimulating herbs that are not always appropriate for patients with autoimmune disease. Indeed, the immune system often needs support in stimulating both our innate and adaptive immune responses to effectively fight off pathogens in the gut, and some immune stimulation may be beneficial, but it is on a case-by-case basis. For example, when autoimmune patients take immune stimulating supplements, such as echinacea and astragalus, there is a possibility that they might increase their immune system’s attack against their own tissues. In the case of Dysbiosis, SIBO and SIFO you can consider adding neutral remedies along with biofilm disruptor enzymes. For more info, check out my free e-book Gut Clear.
